My flower photographs are rarely a chance find, captured the moment I spotted them. Rather, each one is a carefully crafted creation. The inspiration may be something I happen to find, but equally it can be a painting or drawing that serves as a starting point. I am especially interested in botanical illustration which informs the way I approach many flowers, and tulips in particular.
For all my photographs there was a moment when I envisaged a completed image and I then had to create the recipe to bring it about. The materials are (obviously) the flower or flowers, but also the light, the background, the composition, the cropping, the post production (I often alter colours slightly) and finally the printing, with choice of size and paper type. It is this creative process which I enjoy.
All my flower photographs have strong colour themes and therefore lend themselves to adorning walls in rooms which have a particular colour scheme. I have been very flattered that many of my images have found their way onto the walls of people who have visited my Artweeks exhibitions.
